Fort Lee in a nutshell:

If your New York City apartment is already too small for you,  but you can’t 100% commit to the suburban life yet, Fort Lee is the perfect place for you! As a Fort Lee resident, your pay lower (than NYC) real estate taxes, live in quiet and clean neighborhoods, have access to great schools, definitely get more for your money than you’d get in NYC, all while being 5 minutes away from the Big Apple.

6 things you’ll love about Fort Lee

1. One of the best towns to live in Bergen County

Niche.com ranked Fort Lee “A” on an A+-to-D- scale, as one of the best places to live in New Jersey. To arrive at the rankings, Niche.com took several factors into consideration, such as “the quality of local schools, crime rates, housing trends, employment statistics and access to amenities“. Fort Lee is also ranked one of the safest cities in New Jersey. Fort Lee is a town that “appears urban, but it feels suburban”.

2. Great Schools

It’s rare to find a town that’s both close to New York City and has great schools. Fort Lee is one of them. The Fort Lee School District serves students in pre-Kindergarten through twelfth grade. There are 6 public schools. Fort Lee has of the best schools systems in Bergen County with rankings 8/9/10 out of 10 by GreatschoolsDuring the 2010-11 school year, Fort Lee Elementary School #3 was awarded the Blue Ribbon School Award of Excellence, the highest award an American school can receive, one of only 10 schools statewide to be honored.

3. Easy access to New York City

Fort Lee commuters can either take a bus directly to Port Authority Bus Terminal (40 min trip), or take a bus to George Washington Bridge Bus Terminal (takes 5-10 mins), then take a subway from 175th street in Manhattan to their final destination. Downtown commuters can drive to the ferry stop in Weehawken and take a ferry.

4. Lots of events in summer

Festivals – Fort Lee is home to one of the best arts & music festivals in Bergen County that features pop-up art, live music in different parts of the town and live entertainment programs. In 2017, the festival will take place on May 30th – June 4th. The classic car lovers should mark June 1st 6-9pm in their calendars for the Fort Lee Classic Car Show at the Palisades Amusement Park.

Outdoor shows – Fort Lee is also home to its own Shakespeare in the Park series in summer.  The same Hudson Shakespeare company that does the NYC plays, performs in Fort Lee a few times in July. And the great thing about the suburbs is that, unlike overcrowded New York City, where it’s almost impossible to get tickets to these plays, in Fort Lee, there’s no pre-registration and no tickets. Just show up and enjoy the free play at the Fort Lee Monument Park.

Farmer’s market – Summer means lots of fresh fruits and farmers’ markets. The Fort Lee Community Center hosts a farmers’ market every Sunday 8am-2pm end of June till mid November. Enjoy the freshly baked breads and local fruits and vegetables sold by the local farmers. The market is held at 1355 Inwood Terrace, Fort Lee Community Center Outdoor Plaza.
