Tenafly in a nutshell:

Tenafly is a beautiful town in New Jersey 20 minutes away from New York, with great schools, quality housing, rich with recreation and parks, cultural programs, all help to attract newcomers and keep older residents.

New Jersey Monthly magazine ranked Tenafly as the 7th best place to live in New Jersey in its 2013 report.

8 reasons to love Tenafly

1. So close to New York City!

It will take you 16 minutes of drive to get to the New York side of the George Washington Bridge.

Bus ride from Tenafly to the Port Authority Bus Station takes about an hour. There’s a frequent bus service from Tenafly Bus Shelter to New York. 2. Amazing school system

Tenafly is one of the best school districts in New Jersey. Greatschools ranked almost all of the Tenafly schools 10 out of 10.

If you’re looking for a top-notch high school, Tenafly High School is the way to go! It’s known all around Jersey for its excellent education system.

US News ranked Tenafly High School the 13th best high school in New Jersey. It’s one of the top-3 high schools in Bergen County, according to the rating.

Tenafly Public Library, which is free to the residents is one of the best libraries in the area. It offers many activities, including reading to dogs, story times, crafty Saturdays, family story times to the children of all ages.

3. Gorgeous Homes

We, the real estate agents love Tenafly! Homes fly off the market in this town. Most of the buyers move here because of the great school system.

The current homes on the market range from $400.000 to $7 million. There’s a boom of new construction homes in Tenafly. They are typically priced above $1mln+.

The current absorption rate in Tenafly is 5 months, which means homes get sold on average within 5 months. So if you want to sell, rent or buy here, email me and I’ll be happy to help!

4. Parks! Lots of parks!

In case you want to do a tour of all the great parks in Tenafly, here is the list of my favorites. I love Tenafly Nature Center. It is dedicated to wildlife preservation and education. My husband and I have done Scavenger Hunts (the luxury life before baby 🙂 ) at the Nature Center and it has been a fun way to explore the different species living there. The John A. Redfield Building in the Nature Center exhibits live animals – one of the favorite destinations of the town kids.

The 7-acre Davis Johnson Park & Gardens is home to a beautiful rose garden, a greenhouse, a gazebo, brick patio, walking paths and even meeting rooms. A gorgeous spot for wedding/family photography!

My absolute favorite park is Roosevelt Common with a pond and 9 tennis courts. The residents can play tennis there with a tennis badge obtained from the Recreation Office. The passes are $10 for the season. Alpine residents can get a badge as well! We love spending summer nights here playing tennis, walking our dog or bringing our son to the playground. The annual Independence Day celebration is held at this park.

Huyler Park

Another fun park is Huyler Park! It’s home to summer concerts and is located in downtown Tenafly next to the historic railroad station. Oh, don’t forget to stop by the Cafe Angelique, an old railroad station, turned into a cafe, for a delicious croissant and coffee!

My son loves Sunnyside Park and its beautiful playgrounds. The park also has a walking path, softball, baseball and soccer fields.

There are children’s playgrounds in Froggy Park, Walnut Park and Griffin Park as well.

5. Sports and more..

There are soccer, softball fields and basketball courts in Municipal Center Athletic Fields & Basketball Courts. The courts are lighted from dusk to 10:00 pm March through November and are open to public.

If you’re a SoulCycle fan, then Tenafly has its own spin studio called ZingCycle with awesome instructors. There are a few wonderful yoga studios, FireShaper being my favorite. Tenafly also has a few gyms, a pilates studio, and a Racquet Club.

6. Safety

Tenafly is one of the BackgroundChecks.org‘s Top 50 Safest Cities in New Jersey. Only 12 Bergen County cities made it to the list and Tenafly was one of them! According to the website, Tenafly residents have a  .07% chance of being affected by property crime.

7. Cool Downtown

If you are a city girl like me, then Tenafly is a great transition from urban life to suburban. There’s a nice downtown area with nail salons, coffee shops, cute little stores, restaurants, some of which have outdoor seating in summer time, a few supermarkets and a movie theater. I especially love Tenafly Gourmet Farm, where you can get a taste of different cuisines. Looking for a quince jam? Or a pomegranate sauce? Or soft Turkish bread? This is the place to go!

Are you a shopaholic like me? Then you’ll love the fact that Tenafly is 14 minutes away from Riverside Square Mall in Hackensack.

8. Heaven for foodies

Being a huge foodie, I love that Tenafly has some of the best restaurants in Bergen County. For a high quality Greek food, try Axia Taverna.

My another local favorite is Zestt – a Mediterranean BYOB restaurant. Locals also love Kinara Cuisine of IndiaSimply Vietnamese, Mandoo Cafe that serves Taiwanese food and Cactus for sushi delivery.

Cafe Angelique

For weekend brunch, we love to go to Tenafly Diner, Cafe Angelique for French fare, or Europa Cafe for Turkish breakfast.
